Penny Black Challenge - Something Sweet

This weeks challenge really got me thinking, but looking through my stash I found this PB Caterpillar image I recieved in a swap. The cupcakes count as something 'sweeet' and teamed with the very colourful Lime Rickey papers by BG, he makes a very cheerful card. I intend to send this to Robyn H from Post Pals, who's favourite colour is yellow. DCM - Whats the point

Quite an unusual theme on DCM this week, and although my entry is not a card so it may not qualify, it definately has a pointy roof. I got the idea for this BIA project from the Bubbly Scrumptious e-mag. I downloaded the template from here, where you can also see Sarah's gorgeous minibook made of fabric, and I borrowed her idea of using different size pages for the inside of the book. Another version of the theme is by Kathy here where I was inspired by her method of sectioning off the pages into rooms, so that you can keep a record of all the decorating and improvements done over the years. I was going to title it 'DIY Jobs' as I wanted to use monograms, but hubby thought it sounded a bit negative, so I changed it to 'Home Improvements' I've used Love Elsie papers that I've had forever and put off using because when theyre gone - theyr'e gone.

This weeks challenge over on PBS is a colour combo of Blue, Cream & Gold. Blue does not feature in my life much - I dont have any blue clothes other than jeans, and I thought I'd struggle to find blue papers. But then I found the lovely Marakesh paper pad by Basic Grey and problem solved.tfl

Vanilla Sugar is Bubbly Funks new challenge Blog. The Challenges are dedicated to Home Decor & Gifts, and this month they are concentrating on Coasters. I found a tutorial on YouTube for making these little post it note holders using the BIA, and I just used scraps of paper and added embellishments, quite simple really, and fun to make.

DCM - Birthstone Challenge

January's birthstone is the Garnet, and this weeks dare at DCM is to make a card featuring this somehow. Well the stone is a deep red, and 'a gift of garnet is thought to be symbolic of love'. So from my pile of half finished projects, I rescued this cake shaped card which is suitable for a wedding, and added some um.... red things.

This next card is for the Bubbly Funk 25th club. The idea is to make a christmas card (or maybe more than 1) by the 25th of each month, so that by December you will have some put by. As my NYR is to be a little more organised I have decided not to put my Xmas craft stuff away, but to leave it where I can fall over it in the craft room. Joanne has set the theme this time - its a recipe to include turquoise or blue and aaaaaagh silver - I forgot that bit. Also a swirl and something sparkly.

2010 Calendar

I made most of this calendar on Wednesday while off work, unable to get anywhere because of the snow. A friend had given me the chipboard covers, which I cut in half, - and all the papers were from my scrap box as I was determined not to cut into anything new. I have taken a picture of the pages before I bound it together, and the finished project stands up by itself. So..... NY resolution going well so far....another project finished and in time to make use of it too.

My NY resolution this year is to be more organised, particularly in the craft room. I have a box of half finished projects which I am going to either tackle or bin by the end of the month. Here is something I started in Novmember, a wine journal that I will probably sell in a craft fayre. I resisted making it too pretty as I thought it might be suitable for a man, but I was desparate to stick a bit of lace on and go overboard with the flowers. tfl

I'm sitting here in the cold, waiting for the central heating man to come and sort out my boiler! I've had to take the day off, so it gives me time to post the birthday card I made for my sister. The text says 'Wine lovers always do the ripe thing' and as she likes a glass or two I thought it was fitting. Looking forward to sharing a boutelle with you soon Ruthie. x

The challenge on Something Completely Different this week was to use Blue, White and snowflakes. I've done a couple, as the handbag card was an unfinished project put to one side for when I felt like threading beads onto a wire, so thanks SCD for giving me the kick I needed to get on with it. I got the idea for this from UKS last year, and I filed it away as a project for Christmas 2009.I have taken a pic before and after I've added the embellishments which are fixed by a magnet (I don't know what happend to number 19 - maybe that will be my 'meltdown' day!) I finished off by giving it a coat of sparkly modge podge to protect it.

Penny Black Challenge no 75

This week it's called 'One for the guys' - tricky or what. I remembered I had a jumper template from CraftyTemplates, and I used my Craftwork Cards papers and punched out some holly. I tried all sorts of things for the focal point on jumper, but in the end I settled for a sparkly peel off! Not sure about this - but I had to do something or I'd still be dithering by next christmas. The text stamp is by PB so it does qualify for the challenge. Last week I was lucky enough to win the prize - a £10 voucher to spend in the current Stampin Up catalogue, pop over and have a go.

Post Pals and SCD

Here is a card and little notepad I made for Ayesha from Post Pals This is a fantastic charity that helps to bring a smile to a sick child - read about it by clicking on the link. Ayesha likes baking cakes (and I like eating them) so I used my craftwork card templates to create these for her. Inside the notebook, the pages are different colour card, so she can write her cake recipes if she wants to.

This next card is for the week 27 Challenge on SCD which is 'Pink with a christmas tree' I have used my very versatile tree stamp, glittered it up and added some silver embellishments. Check out the blog for some very different and lovely DT samples

Girls Just Wanna have fuuuun

Over on Penny Black Saturday this week, the challenge is to create something based on a song title. I had a look through my (sadly meagre) supply of PB stamps and immediately thought of this song. (and now I cant get it out of my head). I get a lot of use out of this stamp - its great for teen girl cards. For a change I stamped the clothes onto some patterned papers and stuck them onto the image. As usual, I forgot to choose my background paper first, and spent ages working my way through my (not meagre) paper collection.

Something Completely Different

Over on the SCD challenge blog the theme this month is cards (Yay) and this week its the colours red, gold and green with the addition of holly and ivy. This really gave me the kick I needed to get on with some christmas cards and I managed to do 3 for the challenge. They are all quite blingy as I do like a bit of sparkle.

Also, I made a birthday card for one of DS's friends - yep, the dreaded teenage boy card. I always find as in real life - if in doubt, resort to food.

Recipe Book

I have been working on this BIA project for most of this week. I've wanted to do a Recipe Book for ages, but kept looking out for the right papers. I finally found these Cosmo Cricket ones, plus the lovely BG cupcake paper. I've folded a couple of the pages diagonally for bits of paper/articles to be stored inside. I'm still not sure if its finished - I do tend to 'overdo' things, and I'm itching to add some more stickers and maybe some ribbons to the wires but I'll leave it for a few days and see. tfl

There is an alien living in my son's bedroom. It has long hair, grunts a bit and wears trainers the size of small boats. Where is my real boy, the one who looks cute in his karate suit and loves being tickled by me? He was here only last week, or maybe it was last month, time seems to have got a bit muddled.

The card might seem a bit bizzarre, but DS loves VW campers and is studying politics - you might just be able to spot the bunch of jokers inside the van. Thanks to Leigh for the stamped image and Karen for her idea of cutting out the windows (it sure was fiddly)

Mini Book

This week I made a mini book for a friends birthday, which I started at a workshop and finished off at home. Its not a BIA creation this time, but if you look at the photo of the middle of the book, you can see there is a rolled up peice of paper which is used as the spine. On the inside front page I have added a pocket for journalling and I've put a tag in between each page for more photos. Papers are by Cosmo cricket and Sassfrass.

Post Pals

I thought I'd show something I have made for one of the Post Pals Children, Kerry, who is having a really rough time. You can read about her here As well as the card, I covered a notebook using the same Three Bugs in a Rug papers, as she loves stationery because she is learning to write again.You can't tell from the photo, but the towers are 3d. I also made a book mark for her and each of her 2 sisters, as I didnt want to leave them out. I hope it helps to brighten her day a little.

DCM - Autumn Purple

Okay, I might be stretching it with the 'Autumn' bit, but it's definately purple.When I saw the challenge at DCM I thought of my grapes stamp (the text is 'wine lovers do the ripe thing') and coloured it with marveys and added diamond glaze. The template is a WS Design one and the top of the bottle is embossed with gold powder. I also added a little charm that says 'aged to perfection'

Challenges this week

This week I have still been making a box of cards for my friend to take to her office, but in between I have managed a couple of challenges. Firstly on Papertake Weekly it's a sketch - I have done a couple of baby cards using papers from DCWV Nana's Nursery

Next on Rosie-Dee's the challenge is 'Coffee & Cream with a cherry on top'. I took this literally and made good use of my cherry stamps. The cupcake is topped with a liquid that turns into bubbly stuff when it is heated up (great technical description) and i've added some brown sprinkles to make it look edible. Well that's the idea!

Finally, here is a picture of the matchbox I sent in the swap over on UKS. The idea was to decorate a matchbox and fill it with embellishments in your partners chosen colour, and send it off. I had great fun doing this and received a lovely matchbox in return.

I thought I'd have a go at making a home journal - something for busy mums to keep a record of bills, menus and the everlasting 'to do' list. I used my favourtite K&Co Papers (Berry Sweet), just added a few stamps & embellies and then bound it all together with my BIA. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to keep, sell, or give it away as a gift.

First Ever Scrapbook Layout

Yesterday I went to my first crop, taught by Amanda Jones, see her blog here. The kit was made up of Basic Grey's Indian Summer, (I gave in and bought the 6X6 paper pad - ideal for a Garden Journal) so I had to look out some autumny type photos to take along with me. Now, if I'm going to continue scrapping, I think I really need to work on my handwriting! I just put that we used to call James 'the bagpipes' when he wore this little tartan suit as it was so big for him and he looked a bit lost in it.

Mini Christmas (sorry about that) Album

Normally I don't 'do' Christmas until after my DS's birthday at the end of October. But I attended a workshop for making a mini Xmas photo album, and I think I might have to make a few of these for pressies. The papers are by SEI, 2 sheets of 12 x 12 double sided were used and also about half of 2 sheets of bazzil bling. I will be filling it with loads of wintery pictures once I've printed them off and organised the sizes.

I made this card for this weeks DCM Challenge, but then realised that it also fitted the Bubbly Scrumtious Challege, which is 'vehicles'. I've used some papers by Creative Imaginations and the boat is a 'bubble sticker'. I have decided to send it to one of this months featured Post Pals Children. Post Pals is a charity which enables members of the public to send a card or a letter to seriously ill children. Something so simple can really brighten up the day of a sick child - You can read about it here

Something Completely Different is really living up to its name this week. The challenge is to create a 'moo card' in black and gold. I'd not heard of these before, but they are 2.8cm x 7cm,- fine I thought, but I didn't realise quite how small that is. Its amazing what the DT have managed to fit onto their examples, while I meanwhile, have managed one stamp.

This weeks dare over at DCM is 'Sunflowers' and the Design team have come up with some fab examples. I found some paper flowers that I've had for yonks, but I thought maybe they were a bit 3d to put on a card, so I decided to get my BIA out and make a mini photo album. I've decided to fill it with some old pics of my Mum & Dad, but I need to decide which ones, scan them in etc etc, so I could be some time. The gold charms hanging from the binding wires are off a bracelet I got from Primark. tfl.

I managed to get a couple of challenges done this week. Over on SDC this month its 'postcards' and the theme is 'faces'. I remembered I still had this stamped image sent to me by a freind, and I just added some glitter & a few embellishments to jazz it up.

Two Challenges - One Project

Today I managed to combine challenges. Over on Something Completely Different, this weeks challenge is to create a tag, and the theme is 'Crowns'. I've had this chipboard crown for ages, I covered it with 3 bugs papers and added a few embellishments. This weeks DCM challenge is to make a card with a sick child in mind. They have linked up with the charity Post Pals, an organisation that was set up to create smiles for children who suffer from life threatening and long term illnesses. The idea is to post the card to one of the children featured on the home page of Post Pals. Life seems to be throwing me lemons at the moment, but after reading these childrens' moving stories, I realise how lucky I am. Here's the card I made for Amy P.

I managed to get a couple of challenges done this weekend. First over at Something Completely Different this weeks task is to make a tag with a Stars & Stripes theme. I love making tags, so thanks to all at SCD for making June tag month. And here it is using 3 Bugs paper and a footie sticker

OK next up is Penny Black Saturdayand this weeks theme is 'Blooming Gorgeous'. I could have gone completely OTT as primas are one of my favourite things, up there with Chocolate and Johny Depp. Anyway I used an image that I won (Blog candy) and coloured it with copics and added only 3 glittered flowers.

Holiday Journal

This week I've done very little crafting due to among other things, having my email hacked into and dealing with the aftermath. I wouldnt have believed how much hassle its caused. Anyway, I finished a BIA project I've been working on, and it fits in with this weeks challenge on Caardvarks which is to create a 3D paper crafting project. Its a travel journal for a friend who loves her holidays. The papers are Summer Cool by Imaginisce I've embellished it with bits & pieces from my stash.

Tuesday Taggers

This week on TT we want you to be BOLD and BRIGHT, so, my only difficulty was choosing which papers out of my huge range of brights (to the point of making your eyes bleed) should I use. In the end it was the fab K&Co Berry Sweet yet again that won the day.I used a couple of primas, a doodlebug brad and added some butterfly stickers that I glittered for good measure.

Also, while I'm here, I am posting a pic of some cards I have been making from a kit that a friend bought me for my birthday. Its got loads of clothing stencils and fab papers, some of them look like leather and knitwear. My DD and I have had some nice relaxing times this half term making loads of different 'outfits'. Tuesday Taggers - a new challenge

I came across this new challenge blog and was really chuffed as I do miss Tag Your'e it now that it's closed down. Anyway, being the first week, the theme is 'New Beginnings'. I remembered the chipboard shaped house I got from Ally Pally and used some papers I got in a GoGo kit to cover it. The stamped words are supposed to look like smoke coming from the chimney, but I had to settle on putting them in reverse order as it didnt fit properly the other way.

This week on BG we had to make a card inspired by our favourite ice cream flavour. I thought I'd settled on toffee, but then, what about cherry, and mint chocolate and cornish vanilla and...........see the problem? I decided it was time to get my Bind-it-all machine out to play with this week, and used a cupcake template along with papers by Three bugs in a Rug. Each page is decorated with a different paper but i wont bore you with it

The next project is a book for card sketches mainly from challenge sites. Papers used are Sassfrass and the ribbons & bits and bobs are from various GoGo kits. If anyone has seen these papers the owl one is lush - don't see how I'm ever going to cut into it.

18th Birthday Card

I was asked to make a card for a friend to send to her relative. We all know how difficult boys cards can be, but I enjoy working with these papers by Cosmo Cricket. The chipboard letters have been inked and coated with Diamond Glaze and the key has been in my stash box forever just waiting for the right project.

Niece's Birthday......

Coming up at the end of the month and its a special one. I know she's looking for a prom dress at the moment so I thought of this template. I made a schoolgirl error of spelling niece with the e and i the other way round, luckily I realised before I loaded up the pic, and managed to change it. Duuuh - good thing it's not me doing my GCSE's.
The papers are from the Hot Moma range by Glitz Designs. On the back of the card I've hung a little shoe charm to finish it off.The 16 was made using the WS design templates and I stamped it with versamark using my swirly stamp and white embossing powder.

Two Challenges

Yesterday I managed to get 2 challenge cards made before I went out for my birthday meal here. Lovely food, and they were very accommodating about my Gluten intolerence.

Anyway, firstly DCM - the theme this week is 'Old McDonalds Farm' (thanks for putting that song in my head). So, I checked my stash for farmyard animals and came up with - yes - a pig. Excuse the pun, I couldn't resist. The lettering is made by running a sizzlits alphabet strip through my Side Kick - I won it ages ago for having a card in a readers gallery, as no way would I have actually bought it. Talk about fiddly.

Next up is the Basic Grey challenge and this week its a colour combo. Black + Grey + 1. Now this was tricky, but I found the scarlet letter paper for my background, and I stamped my butterfly (part of the set I won last week - see last post) & dragonfly onto Marakesh paper - oh and theres a brad in the middle of the big flower. You can't really see, but I've glued some black seed beads on the butterfly's body with diamond glaze. (Wish I could do that 'close up' thing that you see on other blogs).Normally I wouldn't use these colours together but I think it works - thats why I love these challenges.

This week the challenge is a sketch which you can see here. I have used papers from the 'Mellow' collection, and a chipboard hedgie for my focus point from a kit I recieved a while ago. Tried hard to think of something 'hedgehogish' for the sentiment but could only come up with Hogs & Kisses.

I've not done much crafting this week as the weather's been so nice and I've been outdoors, but I was itching to use my new stash from the Ally Pally Show, so......This week the theme over at BG is paper piecing - I actually managed 2 cards. The first is using the in your face Lime Rickey papers and the second was using the Eva collection

This next item is something I made for my forum buddy Sarn - I can show it now as her birthday was yesterday. The photo is pants, lighting all wrong, but anyway, as she is know as chocoholic, I knew I had to put that on the front of the BIA notepad.

This week I've not had much time to craft as we've been busy over Easter. Anyway, I made this last night for the PB Challenge. We had to create a gift - bag/box/candle/tin, as long as it included at least 1 PB image. I decided to make some notelets in a folder using the flower stamp again. Very simple really - I used a peice of 12 x 12 double sided card folded, stamped and glittered the image onto the cards and added some ribbon.

Finally - I went to see Marley & Me. Such a lovely film but if you are thinking of going, remember the kleenex.

I realise now that I forgot to glitter the flower but I was rushing to finish last night before 'The Apprentice' and now I have to get off to work.

Happy birthday to TYI - 1 year old this week. So to celebrate, the theme is 'Happy Birthday' and each DT member has parcelled up some goodies to be given away to a lucky winner.
For my tag I used BG Blush paper, and lots of bits & bobs from my stash - the cake is a sticker I got in a bargain bucket at Hobbycraft, and the butterfly charm is from a bracelet I got from Primark!

This weeks Dare on DCM is to make a card with a peice of fruit on it. This is my kind of challenge as it gives me an excuse to use my K&Co Berry Sweet Collection so I went a bit mad and made 3 - sorry about the puns, I just couldnt help myself. When I did the last card, I realised I'd made a mistake as the fold was at the bottom - aaaargghh - I hate it when that happens. Anyway I have now decided to use it as a BIA cover for a photo album with pics of me & himself inside, and thats why the left hand side doesnt have any flowers on it, so that theres room for the BIA rings.

This weeks Challenge on Basic Grey is a sketch - not something I normally do as I find it really difficult, but I do want to challenge myself so here's my card. Didnt quite manage to follow the sketch, and also I had to move the sentiment as it wouldnt fit at the bottom of the card. Paper used are from the Eva collection. I feel its missing something but not sure what.

Next is the Tag Your'e it challenge - cute & Cuddly this week, again, a topic I struggle with. Anyway, I dug through my stickers and found this PB cat and just added loads of ribbons. The background paper is allsorts by Craftwork Cards.

This week over at DCM I decided not to go the Easter route, but instead I made a notebook for a friend (hope it qualifies as its not a card). I found some old farmyard stickers I got ages ago and used Doodlebug paper on the front & back covers and the current fave -K&Co Berry

The topic this week on PBS is 'Doodling'. I've used 'ginger' as the main image and watercoloured her with Marveys. The background paper is by the aptly named Doodlebug and I've doodled around the edge of the card, in pink around the image and also in white on on the cut out flowers.

Chipboard Book

Today I am showing a chipboard book that I made at a workshop. It's not my usual style at all,and it keeps to 2 basic colours (which nearly killed me as I kept wanting to add some black, possibly brown, maybe a bit of yellow, god I could have ruined it!)but I think it works. The book itself is by Woodware, and comes with 4 blank chipboard pages and 4 accetate pages, which I have stamped on. the thing I have a problem with, is that it has no purpose other than being a keepsake. Usually I make stuff that can be used, this is just to errr....look at. Still, I had fun.

I haven't had much craft time this week, so I've not entered any challenges, but I have been working on this BIA project. Its a record of my favourite stamps, so I can flick through it when I need some inspiratation. Could easily have added more catagories but I ran out of space.Using the Berry Sweet papers from K&Co - I just never get tired of these gorgeous bright colours. I did buy some more last weekend from Craftability, which sadly is closing down at the end of the month after 19 years trading, due to the credit crunch. Now on a stash ban till Ally Pally, due to my car failing its MOT. Was stunned as its been running fine but the mechanic assured me (tutting often) that it is not road worthy, and hadnt I noticed that the headlight casing was broken. Umm actually no because I have a life, but please do continue to patronise me and then present me with huge bill, and I will happily never ever use this garage again. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

The tag challenge this week is 'Time for tea'. Now I love making cupcake cards so this was right up my street. Originally I was going to make it smaller by only having 3 cakes, but then I got to thinking that 4 cakes would mean 2 each - much fairer. But this left no room for a sentiment. Then I remembered the stickers I bought years ago in the States, so I made a 2nd tag, did a bit of doodling and used my sizzlits extended cut for the lettering.

Here is my entry for this weeks tag challenge. The theme is 'wings' and although I was tempted to use a butterfly or dragonfly, I thought an owl would be a little more unusual.

This weekend I have managed to make 2 Challenge cards. The first is for Tag Your'e It and the theme this week is 'Diamonds are a girls best friend'. Straight away I thought of my Diamonds paper, and the sentiment stamp which I've used so often. The diamond flower brad is by Dovecraft, the paper flower is Prima, plus a little bit of glitter and voila!

I only have a few of these lubberly stamps but this one is an image sent to me by Bex from the stamped image swap. The theme this week is 'Something to eat' and the DT have created a really varied selection. Here's my lil entry. Birthday Book

Here is a Birthday Book I made using the BIA and the delish Marakesh papers from BG. I made a booboo on the April/May page - it originally had June on there as well, but then I included it on the following page, so I had to get rid of it and I put a line of buttons in to fill the gap. This weeks dare over on DCM is to make a card with either a fish or a frog! I confess I love them both, but as last weeks green card was frog themed I decided to go with a fish this time. The image was stamped and coloured at my craft club, and the backing paper & sticker are old K&Co products

Next up is challenge 46 at Tag Your'e it This week Dawn has picked the theme which is to use at least 1 circle and 1 swirl. The circle I've used is a 3" punch inside the scallop, and the swirls are on the glittery paper. I have also used a felt flower and inked up a buterfly from Craftwork Cards. Underneath you'll see the card I made up with it.

Nothing to do with a dare or a challenge for a change. The red dress image was sent to me by a forum friend - I didnt think it needed much else other than colouring and I have topped it off with diamond glaze although you can't tell from the photo. The flower fairies one is coloured with watercolour pencils and glittered with glamour dust and I've gone a bit overboard with the prima flowers! Background papers are HOTP citrus range.

I meant to put this up last week. I got this fab prize for having a card published in issue 29 of Beautiful Cards. I don't remember which card it was and I think issue 30 is in the shops now, but never mind. The scrapbook is really 'solid' and the papers are olde worlde, so maybe I'll scan a few black & white photos and scrap them (or maybe I'll just sit here thinking about it)

I made this card for my DD's friend - not sure if its obvious but the little charm on the number 3 is a mobile phone - I've been saving it for something like this - perfect for a teenager. I had a piece of the paper left over so I turned it into a bookmark. It also fits in nicely with the challenge at JustBex which is to create something bright and cheerful - very welcome in the current climate.

Over on crafting friends, Sarn set a great challenge this week - using one stamp to make 2 cards but with different sentiments. This is what I came up with using a really old stamp, one of my first, and I think it needs to go on an A5 card to do it justice
